A
little bit of history...
Owen
Bond Partnership are one of the oldest architectural practices in
Norwich. The practice was founded by John Owen Bond around 1900.
John Owen Bond was the grandson of Robert Herne Bond the founder
of Bonds Department store which is synonymous with Norwich. The
status of the practice grew in the period before the Second World
War and it designed cinemas around the country for the Gaumont organisation.
Robert Owen Bond, John Owen Bond’s son, graduated from the
Architectural Association in 1933 and continued the Bond architectural
dynasty along with his brother Derek. Robert and Derek were joined
by Robert Sutton and the practice’s portfolio of clients expanded
to include Norwich Union and NatWest bank.
J Owen Bond and Son also designed the new shop for Bonds Department
store following the bombing of the original store in the Second
World War.
J Owen Bond and Son was taken over by Gus Ives and Michael Blake
in 1987 when Robert Sutton retired and the practice became Owen
Bond Partnership. Michael and Gus had worked for the practice since
leaving college and had accumulated over 55 years experience between
them when they took over the practice. The practice has continued
to evolve and has maintained a varied range of projects throughout
the country. Gary Pearce joined as a partner in 2005 as the practice
prepares itself for the next century.
