Title: The Old Rectory, Poringland

Client: Private

Job: Two storey extension and conversion of outbuilding

Date: 2010

Owen Bond Partnership were engaged to develop proposals for a two storey extension and conversion of outbuildings at the Old Rectory in Poringland. The existing four-bedroom house had a very small kitchen that could not accommodate family living and so the brief was to provide a large kitchen/dining area on the ground floor that would be linked to a single storey, extensively glazed garden room with a new bedroom and en-suite bathroom at first floor overlooking the garden. An existing single storey outbuilding was converted to create a play room with a new link to the extension and the existing small kitchen was refurbished to create a studio.

The proportions and detailing of the extension were carefully considered to match the existing house and in the converted outbuilding the existing openings were adapted to provide daylight and minimise the impact on the existing fabric of the building.

Owen Bond Partnership maintained a close working relationship with the client throughout the design and construction phases of the project to ensure that the completed building fulfilled the client’s aims.
