Title:
Norwich City Football Club Stands
Client:
Norwich City Football Club
The
practice was responsible for the design of three of the current stands
at Norwich City Football Club. The Main Stand was constructed after
fire gutted the original stand in 1984. The later Barclay Stand reflects
the changing needs of football clubs with a brief to maximise the
commercial returns for all areas whilst complying with the requirements
of ‘Safety at Sports Ground Act’.
The stand was designed to complement the existing structures and includes
a large hospitality suite. The design also allowed for the phased
development of the site which has seen the corners of the site in-filled
and a subsequent extension to the stand.
The adjacent River Stand was also refurbished by the practice with
a new brick façade added to ensure continuity of the materials
and design themes around the ground. The brickwork detailing on the
Barclay Stand was also featured in the Brick Development Association’s
publication ‘Brick Bulletin’.
The practice has also been involved in a number of other commissions
for the Football Club including refurbishment, lighting schemes and
safety certification for facilities both at the ground and the Club’s
training facilities at Colney on the outskirts of Norwich.
