Title: Broad House, Norfolk

Client: Private

Job: Alterations and refurbishment of Broad House

Date: 2008

The brief for this project was to extend this traditional property to create a space that the family could live in all year round that would facilitate views out over the nearby Ranworth Broad and engage in the garden.

The design developed around the concept of a pavilion and link. The choice of form and materials was intended as a contemporary interpretation of traditional boathouses and compliments the materials of the existing house. The pavilion extends to create a sheltered external space overlooking the Broad and garden. Large sliding folding doors enable the views to be enjoyed all year round. Extended vertical windows at the opposite end of the pavilion frame views of the Tower of Ranworth Church to the west of the house.

The link creates a dining area between the pavilion and the existing kitchen, opening onto a patio, which forms an enclosed area to enjoy the morning sun.
